Health Information You Can Trust
After a brief hiatus Friday Faves and Raves is back with a fave I know all of you will love as much as I do. The Dr. Oz Show. Dr. Oz and I were first introduced through Oprah, on TV of course. I found that as a heart surgeon Dr. Oz provided some valuable information about the organ systems and often showed up with actual organs when he was one of Oprah's guests. Now that he has his own show the information is not only informative but fun as well. You know me, I am all about information and filtering it correctly so I love it when I get information I know I can trust, and this is it. Combining holistic methodologies, practical applications with western medicine and science, The Dr. Oz Show offers the most well rounded information found on TV. His model for educating his viewers bridges the gap between alopathic health care and alternative health care which I appreciate and know you will to.

5 Effective Strategies for Life that You Can Apply Today #elleeyre #livinglifeempowered
Everyone has a pattern for processing experiences that effect choices and results in life. Gaining a clear understanding of our own patterns helps us to become effective communicators and gives us an advantage in our decision making. Increasing positive results in life is simple when we have strategies to handle the seemingly random circumstances life brings and enhances our effectiveness in the world. By applying basic principles of self evaluation and assessment we have the ability to increases our efficiency in processing minor and major events.
Having a strategy for handling events on constructive autopilot is powerful. To create change in our lives these strategies are essential. Much of how we respond, or react, to life comes from the experiences we have had in our families. Parents teach their children through the example of the way they handle situations and how they behave in their varying relationships. As children grow into adulthood they often find that the ways they handle relationships with people, as well as health, education, and world are a result of autopilot connections from problem to solution that were modeled by their parents, teachers, and friends. When there is a breakdown in the effectiveness of these automatic responses it is essential that we recognize our limitations and learn effective decision making skills.
New science has taken us far beyond the traditional decision making process. Gone are the days of where the only information we had to resolve lack of effective thinking and feeling was through psychoanalysis by a professional or through mind and mood altering medications. Today, new thought has made available solutions that are self-responsible and non-evasive. We understand behavioral pattern, the power of the imagination, and the importance of being self aware. The new information tells us that we have the power to effect great change by simple changing our mind about situations and how we feel about them. New science has brought ancient healing methods to us in a way that we are taught to trust through the application of the scientific process.
The final element that ignites change through these methods is human will. We have become a society of immediate results, fast food, and conveniences that make the mastery of the mind, emotions, and body appear to be complicated and difficult. It is so much easier to pop a pill or blame someone else than it is to assess ones own self and create effective positive change. Yet we are bewildered and surprised when events repeat themselves. It can easily be compared to the surprise one might experience when they realize they have reached an unhealthy weight when they have not practiced habits that reveal healthy results.
Five efective strategies that you can apply today include:
- Simple awareness of thoughts and emotions.
- Mapping behavior and desired behavior provides you with a clear picture from which you can create your strategy.
- Taking inventory of recent events with the thoughts, feelings and actions took in relationship to these events increases awareness of patterned behavior.
- Creating a list that compares and contrasts the results of these thoughts, feelings and actions into two columns, working and not working, builds awareness of how your behavior affects the results of these choices.
- Defining the desired results and allowing the experience to flow through your imagination as if it is already so provides a foundation for clear and clean intention in integrity to your desired outcome. If you have never experienced similar circumstances that resulted in the desired state then use your imagination to model your ideal outcome, mapping it over to your life.

Think Yourself Skinny
Habituation is the psychological theory behind the information presented on the show this morning. Habituation is the mind's auto pilot. We have two minds so to speak. The logical mind and the emotional mind. Some refer to the emotional mind as the "Monkey Mind," others the inner "Caveman." I like the caveman mind simply because it references our basic instincts for survival. The caveman in each of us makes quick decisions about risk based on easily retrieved information mainly images. The logical mind takes longer to access, sort, and compile information for decisions and because we make so many decisions with our caveman mind it has become lazy. Increased intentional involvement of the logical mind results in sound decisions, decreased emotional chaos, and decreased fear resulting in reduced stress, illness, hypertension, bad cholesterol, and fat. The caveman mind uses the fight or flight mechanisms of the brain as it reacts to stimulus which turns off our immune system and routs energy to the adrenals, increasing insulin, adrenaline and cortisol into the body. The heart pumps harder to get blood to the extremities to prepare them for fight or flight. Adrenaline and insulin are pumped into the blood to provide fuel for the fight or flight, and cortisol increases to protect the major organs with fat to prevent damage. All in all it is a perfect system. The glitch is that we live in an environment that is constantly filled with information for the caveman to draw on when assessing risk and depending on how highly we feel the probability of a thing happening to us the more it sticks in the quick memory system. If we have a highly emotional response to an event we see on TV or hear on the radio it increases it's stickiness in the caveman mind signaling it that this scenario is highly probable and to be on the lookout. Images about scenarios we don't feel will ever happen to us in a million years like being hit by a meteor are low on the caveman's priority list. The caveman thinking really comes in handy when there is a threat that we need to take immediate action on, other than that it can cause us a whole lot of trouble. The logical mind keeps an eye on the caveman but as long as the caveman seems to be doing a pretty good job the logical mind doesn't get involved, it just doesn't want to be bothered.
Increasing the involvement of the logical mind in decision making takes a little work. This is what I call conscious living. When you are using more of the conscious mind to make more of your decisions and using the subconscious caveman for what it was built for, fight or flight, you are living consciously and have more power in your life. You take on the power of creating the results you desire to experience in your life. The real secret is setting your mind to work in this conscious way so that your focus shifts to what you want and away from what you don't want. Because the caveman is your auto pilot and we are all looking to make life easier as opposed to harder, I wanted to tell you that by repeating a behavior over and over again, it seeps into this caveman mind and resets your auto pilot. Similar to the example I like to use of the car with the manual transmission. When you first learn to drive a car with a clutch it takes practice before it becomes "natural." Any behavior you would like to put on auto pilot can be programmed into your caveman mind with practice. This is what the psychologist referred to as habituation. Those beliefs you have about the way life works that are down deep in your subconscious and are effecting the way you react in the world can also be modified and reprogrammed. That's what I do, I teach you how to reprogram your thinking system to shift the way your are experiencing life by waking up the logical conscious mind and reprogramming your subconscious caveman mind to use its autopilot to streamline those logical responses to life's events, including how food and exercise impact your body.
The body is set up with systems that run perfectly and provide feedback when something is not working correctly. Learning the language of these systems, how to interpret the feedback, and how to communicate effectively to adjust them is the key to creating change in your life. Being created of many layers of matter that are of different densities and vibratory frequencies we experience life through all of these layers and they all inform our experience. Simply by slowing down, breathing and thinking about our responses to input we become more effective and change what shows up in our experience. I tell people that as long as you are breathing you might as well make the most of it. And, as well as you are eating, moving, thinking, feeling, and using energy, you might as well make the most of it. Breathing is one of the best ways to slow down and get the logical mind to get involved in your decisions. Taking three or four long breaths before acting slows this thinking process down and signals the logical mind that you want its input. If it takes you less than ten minutes to make a decision you are making it from the caveman mind. I have tons of resources, techniques, and methods for making the switch to conscious living. Keep an eye on my posts, Facebook, and my new Blog Talk Radio show to gain information that will assist you in living the life of your dreams.

LIving BiG
In all of life, we experience the belief of opposition. We cannot experience beauty without the belief of ugliness. We cannot experience joy without the belief of despair, and so it goes, light and dark, male and female, tall and short. As we learn to accept this opposition, and that life delivers contrast from moment to moment for our experience and growth we open a oneness with all life that comes as we flow through change. We begin to see the world from the creator’s perspective, understanding the truth of our identity, living with grace and ease without forming opinions or creating judgments. Plotinus says, "Let the body think of the Spirit as streaming, pouring, rushing and shining into it from All sides" We all have an internal recording that plays throughout the day, some are better than others are, louder or more constant yet it does exist for each of us. Checking in with this internal recording gives us clues to the contrast we see. The contrast of skinny-nesses to our desires to live big guides us to identify what we want in our world. Often we verbalize the skinny-nesses for reasons such as, a rationalization for our “yeah-butts,” or a plea for others to validate our big-ness as we feel ourselves unworthy of living big. As we verbalize these skinny-nesses, we create more of them. Belief that we are worthy of receiving goodness makes the mind and body healthy and whole. Accepting the best of ourselves assists us in creating clearly defined boundaries that guard us from attacks that may diminish us. Acknowledging our worth reminds us of who we are, what choices are for our highest good and it essential in creating balanced life strategies that, in turn, will move us to joy.
In some circumstances, it may be difficult to see that goodness is happening all around us and we are stuck in our Skinny-nesses. Nothing gets us moving toward joy, and living BiG, faster than gratitude and service. Gratitude allows us to gain the creators perspective while service focuses us outward. There are emotions that are part of gratitude such as, love, happiness, optimism, and joy. Gratitude in action is a great power. Activating the energy of gratitude in yourself and those around you changes your environment, relationships and perception of the world.
BiG LYFE Tip: My mom always says, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Practice noticing the opportunities to play a negative recording and simply choose to be with what is.
H2O (Heart to Others) Project: To deepen your experience, create a Gratitude board out of poster board. Put it in a place where you will see it often each day. Each day, add an entry that reflects what you are grateful for and invite others to add their gratitude to the board. Notice the change that happens to your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self as well as your relationships as you fill your world with gratitude.

I Am.
The next natural step after evaluating how you feel about an event is to create something from it. We are continually creating from moment to moment to moment. My experience in coaching with hundreds of clients is that there is a natural and simple order to making sense of the events of our life and that when we know what that order is it empowers us, we become effective, efficient creators of our own lives, and we find joy and live passionately. The innate creator inside of us takes chaos, evaluates it, intends a new creation and then creates something new. When we create unconsciously, we create stories, judgments and beliefs about ourselves that can cause us to feel unresolved and can result in a recreation of the event repeatedly until we reach resolution. When we create consciously, we are open and aware that experiences create opportunities for us to find and fulfill our purpose and empower us to create our lives with joy and passion.Einstein says, “In order to solve a problem you have to go one level above the thinking that created the problem.” Evaluated properly, how an event affected us reveals clues to our true self. When we connect to our true self, our choices change organically to match our vibration, and we begin to attract circumstances to live from our higher selves. I like to use the metaphor of a car accident because there are so many that can relate the feelings or can imagine how it must feel to have been the giver or receiver of a car crash. Let us imagine for a moment you have recently been in a moderate car accident. What are some of the things you feel at the time of the accident? What are some of the things you hear on your internal recording? What do you begin to say about yourself? Most who have shared this metaphor with me express that they feel badly about the accident, mainly for the other person. When considering the messages heard on the internal recording the most given answer is, “I am a bad driver.” At this moment a belief is being formed from which choices are made and creation begins. This is the point to stop, look and listen to the clues these feeling give you about your true identity that can alter your belief and the resulting creation. What is your positive intent for feeling badly for yourself and others? What does concern for the wellbeing of yourself and others tell you about your true self? Compassion, love, and kindness are some of the divine characteristics that come to mind. Here is an opportunity for you to choose to believe that you are a “bad driver” and go out creating that you are a bad driver repeatedly as the universe supports your beliefs by matching the “bad driver” vibration. On the other hand, you could choose to believe that you are compassionate, loving, and kind and create that repeatedly as the universe delivers up events that match the vibration of compassion, love, and kindness. Because your level of thinking has increased, your thought, emotion, and physical vibrations have also increased, and you receive opportunities to live from your higher self.
There is a positive intent for all that happens in our world. I feel that by becoming the observer to our lives we become more objective and balance is easy and effortless to have. Slowing our processing down allow us to consciously make new choices that will override old ones that are not working. Our physical, mental and emotional self are tuned into vibrations based on our beliefs about yourself, others and the world. We are receiving matching circumstances and events like a radio waves are tuned in from a car stereo.
I invite you to take a moment as the observer of your creation (world) to stop, look and listen to the feedback you are receiving, consider your desires and ask yourself what is working and what is not working? (You might want to grab a paper and pen this is good stuff). Stop, look and listen for underutilized resources that you already have available to you in the way of talents, skills, divine characteristics. Stop, look, and listen to your internal belief system. What beliefs or thinking habits are attracting events and circumstances to you that you do not like? What is on your internal recording that is incongruent with your desires? What do you feel your mission or purpose is and what is working or not working for you to accomplish this mission or purpose? How do the changes in your world affect others? How would you like it to affect others?
Just like learning to drive a stick this gets easier as you create new neural pathways by practicing this new thought process. Just imagine the results of you making a simple change to the way you respond to your world. Imagine as you wake up tomorrow morning and the alarm goes off how good it will feel to know that you are in charge of your life that no matter what happens you get to say how you allow it to change your world. Imagine as you work through your week how much different your relationships are at work, at home and at play as you choose your results through your feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Imagine how much balance, ease and effortlessness you will notice as you move through each day. Just imagine.

Everything Is Perfect
So, when things don't work out we worry and work to put it into balance. It is important to remember to take a breath, a step back and look at it all from the depths of space and time where the creator of all sits and waits and watches and creates. Taking this perspective allows us to see the creator inside of us is the one who seeks to create change. The recognition that there is something in chaos that calls to us to organize it, intend its purpose then create beauty is a characteristic of our divinity.
My challenge to you is to breathe deeply, and contemplate what it is you are seeing in situations that seem out of order, then, as the creator you are, let go of attempts to go back to do it over and just be who your are. Be a creator. Take the chaos, organize and intend its purpose then create something beautiful. This is the lesson for all of life. We are creators in training given endless ways to practice our creative powers.

Breath Awareness
Breath Awareness
Oxygen plays a vital role in a properly functioning system, it turns fat into carbon dioxide that we release as we exhale and water that supports the hydration of organs and tissues. Our stressful lives keep us in a continuous fight or flight mode promoting quick chest respiration that comes in handy for emergencies. Deep breathing reduces stress on the body telling the brain to return all systems to normal. Breath is also symbolic of accepting, allowing, and gratitude for the gift of life. To retrain yourself to breathe deeply take a moment to discover how you are using breath then practice the continuous breathing exercise that follows.
Do you hold your breath for any length of time? If so, how long?
Do you hold your breath in certain situations? If so, when? Describe the situations and the feelings associated with those feelings.
Do you fully inhale when you are accepting a breath? If not, why?
Do you fully exhale when you let go of a breath? If not, why?
What do you expect from the breath?
What do you receive with each breath?
What do you release with each breath?
When do you expect to accept breath fully?
When do you expect to let go of breath fully?
Continuous Breathing (1-2 minutes)
Imagine in your mind, a vast ocean. See the ocean ebbing and flowing in a soothing rocking motion. Listen to the sound the water makes as it moves onto the beach and then retreats to itself again. Feel the rhythm of the water as it moves, rocking you back and forth, back and forth. Now match your breathing to this rhythm, breathing in and out through your mouth, fully expanding and contracting the diaphragm. Place the index and middle fingers of one hand at the base of the sternum and press in one half inch. Feel the diaphragm as it presses against the fingers, pushing out on them. Continue practicing this breath for a few minutes and use this breath throughout each of the meditations in this section.
Here’s the Skinny…
What was your experience with breathing deep into your belly? What did you feel? Were you able to allow your belly to relax fully? What did you notice in your body as you practice this breath? How did you feel after you were finished with the exercise?

Quieting the Mind
Learning to listen to the body by quieting the mind through meditation is vital to recognizing what your body is communicating to you, receiving inspiration, creating clarity, and reducing stress. As you practice quieting your mind, you will find meditation is easy and a quick method to rejuvenate when there is no time for napping. This beginning meditation is designed to give you an initial experience with quieting your mind. In advanced coaching, you will receive additional meditations that create specific results, or, have little, if any, guided imagery. Quieting your mind expands you into a realm of new possibilities available for you to choose from as you create your life’s strategy.
Daily Grounding Meditation (5-15 minutes)
Complete each morning just before getting out of bed and at night just as you get into bed, and anytime you feel a need to rest and rejuvenate. Be sure you are comfortable. Wrap a blanket around you because your body temperature will drop; this will allow you to maintain a longer, deeper meditative state. If you are finding that you are falling asleep before you complete the meditation, try sitting in a comfortable chair, or on the floor with your sit bones on a folded blanket to create a straight and relaxed torso position. You may choose to play soft instrumental music in the background to time yourself and to give your mind another focus. Use as many musical selections as are appropriate for the time you have allotted for your meditation. Extend your meditation time as your mind becomes stronger and can more easily become quiet.
Close your eyes. Feel the pull of gravity on your body as you are sitting or lying down. Focus on the spot behind your eyes and between your ears and drop it down into your heart space. Take long deep breaths, 4-5 seconds on the inhale and 4-5 seconds on the exhale. Move the breath up the front of the body and down the spine or up the spine and down the front of your body, massaging the spine as the breath moves along it. Begin at the belly and allow it to relax. Finish each breath in the chest, expanding and lifting. Keep your shoulders down, away from your ears. Allow the body to move naturally with each breath. Thoughts may come; that is ok; just let them go as easily as they came.
Focus your attention on each breath. Notice the sounds that are all around you now. You do not have to change anything, just be aware of what is going on around you and let it go. Focus on the breath. Now, imagine a beam of golden light coming down from the heavens and pouring into the crown of your head. Allow the light to saturate your body, exiting through to the floor. Create a grounding cord of light moving down through the floor beneath you, down through the earth to the earth’s core. Tie the cord off around the core of the earth. Feel the pull of gravity as the cord tethers you to the earth. Feel the energy of the earth as it pulsates along the cord of light up through your body, into the heavens and then returns, creating an endless cycle of energy connecting heaven and earth with this cord of light moving through you. You feel revitalized, clear, loved, and abundant. Continue to focus on the breath. When you are complete, come back into your body. Wiggle your fingers and your toes. Stretch. Gently open your eyes and come back into the room.

Learn, Laugh, Share
I began as a fitness coach. There I learned many things about human nature as well as human bodies. I recognized that the emotional and spiritual part of our lives plays a significant role in the physical part of our lives. That in the fitness industry the focus is on the skinny, constantly reducing ourselves to a little as possible when life calls us to live as big as possible. This is a terrible inbalance. As my mind contemplated the idea of finding balance with fitness and fit-ness I found that I was doing it backwards. I was looking for a physical solution in hopes that if I looked perfect and I lived perfectly on the outside then everything would be all right. That it would feel the same as when I would scrape my knee and my mom would put a Band-Aide on it, kiss it and make it all better. Working out, dieting, housekeeping, scrapbooking, volunteering, clothes, hair colors (I'm certainly not saying that a good hair color doesn't transform my world because it absolutely does... for about three months when my roots appear), pedicures, acrylic nails, car, house and pets all became Band-Aides in my mind, and money is definately not a kiss.
With each client I learned more and more about how powerful the spirit self was. I began using meditation techniques with resistance training and watched as clients improved by leaps and bounds. The more I read and the more I learned about the soul and the powers of creation I found that balance is a moderation of all things. I learned that when allowed to be led by the spirit self nothing was impossible. And so here I am. Living my passion. It feels so good to say that and even better to really believe it. I do believe that there are endless possibilities and the opportunities to have our hearts desire open up all around us in every moment everyday, the key? Opening the heart to receive those desires.
I am the student and the teacher and as I learn I want to share with you. I have hope that you will find the words I write to be informative, inspirational, and sometimes funny.
And because life's scale has two sides, unbalanced and balanced, I'll see you on the other side (the side of balance.)
